Tom Lumley & The Brave Liaison, No Trust 04.11.2022

Tom Lumley & the Brave Liaison is a British indie rock band who has recently released the video for the acclaimed single No Trust.ย  I discovered the band on the “tweet-tweet” social platform when they announced that they were about to be the opening act for Poets of the Fall’s Ghostlight Tour 2022. Unfortunately, they were sharing the first act with the great Swedish rock band Bomber… I say unfortunately because none of the gig dates I chose included Tom Lumley & the Brave Liaison ๐Ÿ˜ญ. I would have loved to be able to say I saw both supporting acts โค๏ธ

“Anywho”, I read a few reactions to the announcement on tweet-tweet, which was the extra nudge that made me rush to Tidal and play Tom Lumley & the Brave Liaison‘s latest album… Something weird happened… I got hooked ๐Ÿ˜… Did you noticed too? This is happening quite a lot lately โค๏ธ. Note to self: buy Tom Lumley & the Brave Liaison‘s latest album… ยค#&!๐Ÿคฌ it is sold out ๐Ÿ˜‚ YEAH for the band! But it’s freakin’ boring for me ๐Ÿ™ƒ.

No Trust – Single release 21.10.2022

If I remember correctly, October 21st was a festival of new releases but trust me, I did not miss No Trust then. No, siree… I might even have managed to quit work earlier that day ๐Ÿ˜ “might” being the operative word here, me-myself-and-I cannot agree on the accuracy of this information ๐Ÿ˜….ย  This being said, I remember putting my headphones on while sitting at my home desk, pressing “play”… suddenly, 6 am, I was up on my feet dancing, head-banging – just a little – trying not to spill my coffee which I was still holding steadily while turning clumsily on the spot in my flat all the while having a huge smile on my face, preventing me from drinking my coffee properly. When a day starts like that, it’s all good… I mean it doesn’t matter how shitty your day’s gonna be, right?!

You may be wondering what it was that made me be so enthusiastic about the song. Well, it is quite easy to answer that: the music is such a burst of energy that strangely, this is what touched me first. I usually focus on lyrics, but this time the music got the better of me and my body started moving on its own before I even realized what was happening.

In truth, I did not care what the song was about… not at first. It was the new Tom Lumley and the Brave Liaison new release which was enough for me. Not Trust is, however, so much more than that. Not short of being just a fan, I wish for Tom Lumley and the Brave Liaison to go as far as they wanna go… so here are my two cents: “Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.” Today, I feel like trusting in Tolkien’s words โค๏ธ.

No Trust – the message behind the lyrics

The band posted a video about the song that made suspiciously curious, like “what do they mean?”, you know… as English is not my mother tongue (even though I dream in English, yes yes true story), it always helps to be able to read the words at first… I am an expert at misunderstandings ๐Ÿ˜‚,ย  until I read the words and I go like: ” Oh, you meant it like that: dee-eee-p!” So I paid real close attention to No Trust because it means so much to the band and the listeners. I felt the need to relate from my own stratosphere as well. Beyond the music which is rather aggressive somehow, it does support the words effectively and gives me so much energy ๐Ÿ˜.

Promises, promises but in the end it is always the same getting the sharp side the blade hit them in the face… Some of us are lucky enough to live in democracies… and yet are they that? We work, we vote, we hope, but in the end we are screwed anyway. Nothing changes, whatever the country. Those who can bring forth changes for us small people, are always hindered one way or the other. We pay, and pay, and scrape the bottom of our drawers hoping that we’ll make it to the end of the month unscathed. Meanwhile, power, money, for the monkeys above us, grow on trees and they aren’t to be shared. Too harsh? This is what I get from No Trust. Tom Lumley and the Brave Liaison sing at the top of their lungs what we dare not say too loud… at least , not too many of us yet…

“Living like kings in your ivory tower”

But really the line that did it for me was:

“Your debts are not ours to pay”

I remember laughing so loud at this because it was right on point. I loved it. But the song goes beyond the materialistic aspect of our society. Mass manipulation and mind control with honey coated words… I mean they really got everything brilliantly summarized in this 2:51 track. The feeling that is left after I listen to No Trust is not that of anger, but relief. A brilliant reminder that we all are in the same boat and that none of us is alone. Guilty pleasure of letting go of the steam and breathe together.

I think this is why the song put such a big smile on my face. Such a long conversation can ensue… but I will stop here because I’ve gotta talk about the video just a little bit ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ˜Ž.

No Trust – The video

The video is not meant to illustrate the words, I don’t think… it seems to be meant for highlighting the energy of the song and getting us all onboard and through the rush it brings. In a way it is mostly a collage of live footages including – but probably not exclusive to – Poets of the Fall tour. I might have spotted some of my friends actually, not sure though, gotta ask them now ๐Ÿ˜‚. My guilty pleasure… I’ve had the video on a loop while writing this post – so for a while – and it almost feels like I was there. Do you have the opportunity to attend a Tom Lumley & the Brave Liaison gig? Make me jealous and don’t hesitate โค๏ธ! Go for it! Besides the obvious talent, they are really nice guys ๐Ÿ˜Ž, you’ll have a great time indeed.

Yet another great band who’s invaded my playlist on Tidal ๐Ÿ˜…. Stream, share and go see them live! I’d say buy the CD…ย  I wish they could print some more, but I know it’s not cheap so I’ll be content with Tidal and YouTube ๐Ÿ˜.

All photos on this post are borrowed from Tom Lumley & the Brave Liaison Facebook page, for fair use only.

Give the band some luuuuvvv’ and share, share, share… talk to your radio stations, like I did – kind of. They were programmed on VinylesTimes Classic Rock Radion (Paris, France) this week, hopefully it will happen again ๐Ÿ˜. Go see them live and stream as much as you can!

Until next time, take good care of yourselves!

Cheers โค๏ธ
